Cookie Policy
We audited every cookie and similar storage mechanism actually set by alyt.com and app.alyt.com before writing this page, rather than starting from a generic template that assumes advertising or analytics tooling is present. Here is exactly what we found.
1. What Is a Cookie
A cookie is a small text file a website stores in your browser to remember information between visits or between pages of the same visit. Related technologies include local storage and session storage (browser-side storage mechanisms used similarly to cookies for some modern web applications) — we treat all of these the same way in this policy, and refer to them collectively as "cookies" for simplicity.
2. Cookies We Use
| Cookie/storage | Purpose | Category | Duration | Third party? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Session/authentication token | Keeps you signed in to app.alyt.com between page loads | Strictly necessary | Session, or until you sign out / it expires | No — first-party, set by ALYT |
| Theme preference | Remembers whether you chose light, dark, or system theme | Strictly necessary / functional | Persistent, until changed or cleared | No |
| CSRF protection token | Protects forms (like sign-in) from cross-site request forgery attacks | Strictly necessary (security) | Session | No |
3. Cookies We Do Not Use
We want to state plainly, not just by omission, what is absent:
- No advertising cookies — we do not run ads on alyt.com or app.alyt.com, and set no cookies for ad targeting, retargeting, or frequency capping
- No third-party analytics cookies — no Google Analytics, no Meta Pixel, no Mixpanel, no Amplitude, no Segment, or any similar tool, as of this policy's effective date
- No social media tracking pixels
- No cross-site tracking of any kind
4. The Mobile App
The ALYT mobile app does not use browser cookies (it is not a web browser), but uses equivalent local device storage for the same strictly necessary purposes — keeping you signed in and remembering your preferences, as described in our Privacy Policy. The same "essential only, no tracking" principle applies there.
5. Third-Party Services on Our Sites
The developer portal at developers.alyt.com uses Cloudflare Turnstile to protect its sign-up and sign-in forms from automated abuse; Turnstile may set its own cookies as part of that process, governed by Cloudflare's own privacy policy. This is disclosed in our Privacy Policy, Section 16. As of this policy's effective date, Turnstile is used on the developer portal, not on alyt.com's household-facing pages.
6. Managing Cookies
Because we use only strictly necessary cookies, disabling them may prevent you from signing in or using the console at all — there is no optional, non-essential cookie category to opt out of. If you want to clear cookies anyway, every modern browser lets you do this through its settings (usually under Privacy or Security).
7. If This Changes
If we ever introduce non-essential cookies — for analytics, for example — we will update this policy first, and implement a proper consent mechanism (a real, functioning cookie banner with a genuine choice, not a decorative one) before any such cookie is set, not after. We think a fake consent banner shown when there is nothing to consent to is worse than no banner at all, which is why you do not see one today.
