Browse music and choose where it plays

Find music

Open Media. On the phone, Find something to play includes Search for music, with Songs, albums, artists, playlists as its hint. Search results are grouped by connected service. Recent searches can be cleared. A service’s Account, Playlists, Liked songs, and Artists followed are library information, not extra physical devices.

On web, search stays above the service filters. When more than one source is available, All and each connected service appear as matching pill controls. Each library or result group shows its source logo and heading above the content list. You can select that heading to collapse or expand the list; keyboard users can focus it and press Enter or Space.

Browse or play

1. Open a result to browse the contents the provider permits.
2. Choose Play and, if asked, select a room or speaker. On the phone, the prompt is Choose a room to play this in.Play
3. Use the speaker’s page or Music to inspect actual playback.

Choose the room explicitly

Browse from Media. Music starts with no room selected when it is opened from the household dashboard, even if a room is playing or was selected before. Choose a destination explicitly. In the group picker, Every room can be removed, including the room that opened the screen. Clearing the final room clears the app selection without sending a playback or grouping command.

A Spotify playlist must finish opening as a browse action. The phone shows Opening this playlist… while it waits. If a timeout or provider error appears, retry the library read; pressing Play is not a workaround for an unfinished list.

What happens by provider

• Spotify playback needs a Sonos speaker with the appropriate Spotify account.
• Some Spotify playlist contents require a local Sonos connection; if contents are unavailable, Play may still start the playlist from the beginning.
• Plex is a local music library, and a hosted home cannot reach a private Plex server through the hub yet.
• Local Sonos can expose saved playlists, local albums, and current room queues; cloud Sonos does not expose the same playlist contents.

Troubleshooting

• Could not reach the music library is a read error, not an empty library. Try the read again or review the integration connection.
• That did not go through is not playback confirmation.
• A provider restriction cannot be fixed by choosing an unrelated home’s speaker.
• Artwork and catalog counts alone do not prove playback.
